Welcome to Municipality of Mariveles official website. Histori- cal Mariveles is the site of the country's first Export Proces- sing Zone (Economic Zone) - the pride of Bataan province, home of the braves and heroes (defenders of Bataan and Cor- regidor) starting point of the infamous Death March.

From the sleepy, laidback fishing village in 1940's and from the role it played as refilling station for merchant ships coming into Manila Bay during the pre-Spanish days, it is now a highly indus- trial town with lots of investment prospects for real estate deve- lopment and business opportunities in agriculture, manufactu- ring, tourism, small-scale cottage industry, and several service- oriented industries to support the ever-increasing number of workers, locators and expatriates at BEZ, Petrochemical in- dustrial estate, Plastic City, etc. located in the area. Liberal tax incentives and simplified application for business permits and licenses are offered by the present local government adminis- tration under Mayor Jesse I. Concepcion.

Mariveles is a 1st class municipality in the province of Bataan, Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 85,779 people in 19,460 households. Population growth rate per annum is 4.71%, twice that of the province itself.

The two eloped that took them to a lush forest at the tip of a peninsula across the Manila Bay corridor. Authorities from Manila caught up and separated the lovers. Maria Velez carried on to be a monk and the priest was banished to a far flung village in Me- xico. Immortalizing this legend, the lush forest was named Mari- veles, after the lady monk.

Much historical interest is attached to this place. It was the chief port of the Jurisdiction of Mariveles under the old territorial divi- sion which the island now. . . READ MORE
